We offer a range of Respite Services for people with disabilities to allow parents and carers a much needed break, and to offer people time away from home, thus allowing them time to spend with their friends, to relax, socialise, visit new places and even to prepare them for having their own home.
We offer accommodation based respite at Queensbridge, which is a specialist service catering for adults with learning disabilities and additional complex needs such as challenging behaviours, autism and also physical disabilities and/or sensory disabilities.
Queensbridge is a new, modern, purpose built, fully accessible building in Longbenton. It has 6 bedrooms, a communal lounge/dining area, kitchen, laundry and 3 bathrooms. The bathrooms provide an adjustable bath and 2 walk in showers, therefore catering for all needs and preferences. All bedrooms and the living/dining area have an X/Y tracking system. The property has the unique option of offering an individual unit for those people who prefer to be alone, or where this is required to manage risk. The individual occupying this unit would have their own living room/dining area, bedroom and access to a bathroom. This is in addition to having access to the communal areas with staff support. When this unit is not in use, it can provide a quiet space for all.
In addition, Queensbridge has a beautiful landscaped garden which is easily accessible and has an array of seating areas as well as raised flower and herb beds.
Alternatively, we can offer respite in the form of supported holidays. For many years we have supported people to have holidays or short breaks, which can be either on a 1:1 basis or as part of a larger group. Flexible Support Options also have several properties which we lease on a short term basis for both emergency and planned respite. In addition to the above, we can offer support in a person’s home, allowing them to stay in an environment where they feel comfortable and safe and giving their carers time to have a break themselves.
