Funded by North Tyneside CCG, we recently converted a disused garage into a Men’s Community Shed where the focus is on improving the health and wellbeing of men in North Tyneside.
The first of its kind in North Tyneside to be registered with Men’s Shed UK, The Shed is somewhere for men to meet, socialise, skill-share and take part in creative, mending and upcycling woodwork activities. The emphasis is on encouraging community involvement by older, bereaved, retired, veterans or carers, those socially isolated or in health recovery. Whilst men are encouraged as main beneficiaries of The Shed, women are also very welcome.
The Shed has been up and running since October 2021, is supported by a part-time Technician/Project Worker, but is essentially run by volunteer Shedders who have fitted out the space and equipped it with tools and equipment for community use.
The Shed is an excellent community space where our members are benefiting from its use for making, mending and up-cycling.
We offer a 6 week induction into the use of woodworking tools, machinery and materials before you are offered a place in The Shed.
