The philosophy of the centre is founded on partnership between members of the centre and their carers (if they have them) on the one hand, and the members of the management committee, (who the users elect), and the staff, (who the members employ), on the other. Ultimate power to decide what goes on at the Centre rests with the users and both Manager and staff are regularly reminded of this fact. In keeping with the philosophy of partnership, the ‘Ethos’ of the Tynemouth Village Day Centre emphasises the respect and esteem in which each member of the centre is held and the consequent requirement upon staff, wherever possible, to attend to members’ views, requests and concerns. Respect for the individual, equal opportunity issues, choice and empowerment are therefore built into the very fabric of the Tynemouth Village Day Centre.
The ‘Aims’ of the Tynemouth Village Day Centre are as follows: -
