Trading Standards Team that uses the Consumer Credit Act to prosecute loan sharks or illegal moneylenders. These lenders may use threats, harassment, intimidation or violence to enforce their debts. Borrowers may not be offered paperwork and are not given receipts when payment is made. The team also has Liaise Officers who provide victim support and a hand-holding service to encourage victims to get help with matters such as debt, housing, and mental health support which may have come about due to them using a loan shark. The Liaise Officer also delivers free training to both staff and volunteers.
